On the road again!

After SEI, we spent a few days getting things organized before leaving for Canada. We finished off some of our garden and mowed the grass and gave instructions to Kolya on how to feed and water the chickens. We had a long list of things to do, but come Tuesday night, we were ready to go.

Victor picked us up at the house at 4 am on Wednesday and we were on our way to Zaporosia International Airport and our journey back to Canada was underway with Ukrainian Air. We had a one hour flight from Zaporosia to Kiev and then 10 hours to Toronto. From Toronto, we switched over to Air Canada for the 4 hour flight to Edmonton. Our flight was about 35 minutes late in leaving and we arrived in Edmonton at 9:44 pm Wednesday night.

Seeing our shadow

Pretty neat view

We were met at the airport by our daughter Lindsay and her son Spencer. Spencer DID NOT know that we were coming and the look on his face was wonderful! He looked at his Mom and then launched into our arms for a huge hug! It so good to see them again! We got back to Lindsay's place in Lloydminster and into bed after 1 am and then slept for 8-9 hours.

Thursday night we went out to see Sydney, our granddaughter, who was at camp for the week. She also didn't know we were coming and hugs were exchanged. She was in camp until Friday.

On Friday morning we hit the road to head to Cut Knife to return some items to the Seacan that we had not used since we left for Ukraine and to pick up some things that we wanted to take back with us. While there, we found a small hole in the ceiling of our Seacan that allowed way too much water inside. We were glad we came home when we did. The water wrecked a few boxes without damaging the contents, but the one box was full of towels and small quilts and they were very wet and starting to get a bit of an musty smell. We were able to wash all of the contents over the next couple of days and all the contents are once again back to normal. We have to return later to do a better patch, but it is okay for now.

We went into Cut Knife and saw a few people before we left for Saskatoon. It was great to see a few people and reconnect. We also stopped by our house that is rented out as we have some perishable items stored in the basement and we needed some things. We also renewed our lease for another year with the young couple who are living there. We are very thankful to have a great couple living in our home back in Saskatchewan!

In Saskatoon, we spent some time with friends in the afternoon before we headed off to a Teen Challenge graduation. Teen Challenge is a one year program where men and women with addictions can come and spend a year in a Christ-centered program and learn to depend on Jesus rather than substances that can bring destruction to their lives. A young man who had become a part of our lives in Cut Knife was graduating. Nathan did not know we were coming and you should have seen his reaction when we walked around the corner! He ran over to us and embraced us! He was so surprised! We are so proud of him for completing the year at Teen Challenge. If God brings Nathan's name into your thoughts, please pray for him as he now adjusts to life away from Teen Challenge. I had the privilege to pray for Nathan at the end of the service and that was special.

We stayed the night in Saskatoon before heading to Watrous the next day to see my (Scott) parents. We drove through an area of Saskatoon that had a park so we stopped for a walk. Shannon was able to feed some Canada geese and one was brave enough to eat from her hand.

We travelled to my parent's place and it was so good to see them again! We went for ice cream and spent the evening together playing some games.

Sunday morning we were off again to Imperial where we were sharing about Ukraine and Scott also preached the message. This is a very special church to us as we spent the first 11 years of our new life in Christ there, where they poured into our lives in so many ways. We will always be so thankful for this church family that God gave to us!

We had lunch at my cousin's place. Pastor Jonathan and his wife joined us along with another cousin. We had a great afternoon as we visited and shared throughout the afternoon. God has really helped us to adapt to the time change back in Canada and that has been very helpful. We have slept well at nights generally and our days are pretty much normal. We have had a few timely 15-30 minute naps that have helped us to re-adjust to the time zone.

We stayed overnight at Scott's cousin's place before we headed back to Watrous on Monday. On the way, we were able to visit with two of Scott's uncles and some lifelong friends. Back in Watrous, we had supper with Scott's Mom and Dad and spent the night.

Tuesday, right now, we are heading back to Saskatoon for a noon meeting. We then have plans to visit Scott's cousin and spend the night with some special friends we met at Gleanings for the Hungry in Dinuba, California. On Wednesday, we will return to our daughter's place in Lloydminster and help them with their move to a new location. We will spend the next 10 days there.

Next Sunday, we will be speaking at the EFCC church in Meadow Lake, SK and the following Sunday, we will be back in Cut Knife, where we pastored before moving to Ukraine.
