Some new experiences

This past week we continued to do more work in the house and both closets are completed and in use! With our bedroom closet finished, we have now emptied all but one suitcase and the rest are under the bed. Yea! Now it looks like we are staying with the suitcases out of sight.

From Saturday evening to later on Monday afternoon, our WiFi was down. I thought maybe my money had run out, so I went to the village store to put money on the account, but when I got home, we still didn't have any WiFi. Max stopped by shortly after to say that it was down throughout the village and now my account is good for 2-3 months.

Nellie has been over a couple of times to help us with the Russian language. It is amazing how challenging it is. We came across a Russian speaker on the internet and he shares the alphabet very slowly and it helps to get the proper accent and sound of each letter. He says that Priority #1 is learning the alphabet as well as we know our own, so that is where I have been focusing more the past week. It's coming, but we have to stay with it.

This past Sunday, Shannon and I had the privilege of sharing at Leana's English class after church. Shannon met Leana when she took part in the Summer English Institute in July 2017. The class is made up of younger kids up to young adults. We enjoyed the experience and are thankful for Leana giving us the opportunity to fill in for Garry while he is in Manitoba. (We hope to have a picture next posting. )

On Tuesday, our Europe Director of the EFCCM was here. Daryl and Molly Porter live in Krivoy Rog, which is about 2.5-3 hours from the village. Victor met Daryl at the bus stop in Dnipro and they were able to come and have lunch with us. It was great to chat about our transition to Ukraine and look ahead to 2019.

Road signs are interesting, to say the least! Once you know the alphabet, it gets easier. The first sign is for our village and the second one is for Zaporosia, which is about 30 minutes south of us.

Max (farm manager) has been helping us shop around for a vehicle. We have gone a couple of times to Zaporosia to see what is available. It is a bit different than Canada, where we find new and used cars on the same sales lot. Here there are new car dealers and used car dealers. Max has been trying to help me find something reliable that stays out of garages as much as possible. I didn't take any pictures (forgot), but we brought home a vehicle today. It is a Chinese car. It is a 2015 Geely with 14,000 km on it. They are a cheaper car, but it is in very good shape, so will post pictures in the next day or two.

The past couple of days, we finished putting up curtain rods and Shannon is now in the curtain making business. It will be nice to have curtains on our bedroom windows. We finished the closets along with some areas of baseboard.

A little privacy

We were getting low on drinking water so yesterday we thought we could just walk down to the store
with 6 litre jugs. Going was easy, but coming back our arms stretched a bit. It is longer than a quarter mile and closer to a half a mile. We figured by the time we got home that we probably wouldn't do it again.
